Over the course of the semester, students will work with Art Camp 504 teaching artists to develop skills in illustration, drawing fundamentals, watercolor techniques, mixed media collage, sculpture, and more. Projects include costume pieces, clay figurines and minatures, textured prints and more. Our goal is to nurture a love of art and creativity in our youngest artists! With a small group format, this class allows for individual attention and flexibility—projects are often guided by student interests and feedback to ensure an engaging and personalized experience.
FINE ART DRAWING & PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT
This class is designed for young artists looking to build a portfolio and strengthen their observational drawing skills. Students will begin with black-and-white studies, including simple still lifes and self-portraits, focusing on foundational techniques such as contour drawing and shading. As the class progresses, we’ll introduce colored pencil, using color theory to deepen their understanding of form, light, and composition.
Between classes, we encourage students to continue drawing at home and develop a consistent practice. Through guided projects and one-on-one support, students will learn the discipline and focus required to complete a polished, well-rounded drawing. By the end of the semester, students will have several finished pieces suitable for inclusion in a portfolio—and more confidence in their artistic abilities.
This course is individualized and can be taken more than once. Returning students will continue developing their portfolios with new challenges and personalized guidance.
FILM club
In this class, students discover the art of filmmaking from its early beginnings to modern-day blockbusters. We will watch and analyze iconic film clips that have shaped the industry, from classic Hollywood movies to international cinema and contemporary indie films. Students will explore themes, character development, symbolism, and narrative structure, and use these insights to craft their own short films. Students may decide to work in groups or individually to craft their own video content. We will explore scriptwriting, storyboards, cinematography, production design, and acting. Students will work with a variety of digital media apps including Capcut, Procreate, Stop Motion Studio, Canva and more.
ELECTRONICS: We have iPads available for students to use while at class. If students bring their own iPads, we will share how to download and use a variety of apps.
