Tigermen, June 10 - 14: Farm to Table, Culinary Arts

225.00

Ages 5 - 14

Campers begin each day at 24 Carrot Garden - where they learn about the processes of growing food from seed to harvest, understanding seasons and cycles, the importance of enriching the soil through composting and how to be responsible stewards of the environment. In the afternoon, we move to the Tigermen Den kitchen where we will cook recipes based on our freshly harvested seasonal ingredients. Students explore the rich cultural history of Cajun, Creole, and Southern cuisine. We visit Atchafalaya restaurant to dine and see what it’s like behind the scenes in a restaurant kitchen. Participants learn how to safely use knives and other kitchen utensils. We’ll discover how to make bread and pasta from scratch, prepare fresh pesto, ferment and make pickles, and learn how to make ice-cream. Students are encouraged to get creative with presentations and explore how preparing food can be a form of creative expression. Last but not least, we’ll share our delicious creations with friends and family!
