225.00

Ages 5 - 14

Learn how to build and paint floats for our very own Mardi Gras parade! Students will learn about the history of float building around the world, from ancient Rome to the present. They will learn the basics of float building - from design, painting, paper mache, to paper flowers. Students will help decide on a theme for our parade and develop designs for our fleet of floats. From there, we will break into sub-krewes to build and decorate a combination of wagons and shoe box floats to be paraded down the streets in proper New Orleans fashion!

Lead Teacher:

CAROLINE THOMAS has been working in Mardi Gras for ten years. She currently works at Royal Artists, where she designs and paints floats for various krewes in New Orleans and Mobile, most notably the Krewe of Proteus, the second oldest parade in the city. She is dedicated to preserving the cultural history of Carnival in the city, while finding ways for those traditions to adapt and evolve for the generations to come.
